Q: 98/2k Pro dual boot or 2K Pro / XP dual boot?
Which one is better? Im currently using XP, but there are some annoying problems with certain programs such as Works and some of my games are not good to work without crashing.
And um, does anyone know a good guide for doing double O / Ses and one which describes the sequence for installing the drivers (network card, sound card, graphics drivers, printer, scanner)? = P I have not done double O / Ses for a long time.
Also, I just got a new hard drive. I need an extended partition, right (and I assume I can use Win XP disk management format, etc.)? Im not going to O / Ses install this drive, only to store data.

I use the following setup.
Win98SE – for all internet apps (ntp, mail, www, ftp) and PC games.
Win2k Pro – for all my office apps and other work-related applications.
No point in doing a Win2k/WinXP, unless you really want to. But just a warning, install Win2k Pro first on the primary partition and then WinXP on a secondary parition, or physical drive.
Don't listen to these people who say that multi-booting is a problem. Maybe it's a preference thing, but there are some things that tend to run better, if at all, on certain OS's and not others.
As for driver install order, usually, it's OS – motherboard drivers/inf files (may include onboard video and network drivers) – video – and then whatever else you may have.

But if you want security for a bombed o/s beyond recovery of going back to a saved setpoint, then you are really having problems.
what i used to do (pre Wxp) was do a dual install of W2k. Installed on seperate partitions. Kept one as a plain, no frills install, and the other as my main o/s I used daily with all the applications installed.
Never had to resort to the no frills and finally deleted it.
But if you have multiple users for a computer, it may be worth some time to have such.

Re:One operating system=less headaches. It can be a real pain to run 2 ops. Run 2k and be done with it, doesn't screw up hardly ever if you have more common sense than the average computer user.

Re:I tend to agree with Noggin. I had 98SE/2K Pro on a system for a long time and it just slowly deteriorated (irretrievably) over time. 2k runs Works and other old progs just fine and its soooo much more stable..
Pick one and invest the time to eradicate the bugs.
Re:Fer cryin' out loud, use one operating system.
If you're having problems with XP, find and fix the problems; don't resort to dual booting. You're solving the wrong problem.
