“A disk read error occurred” . am I SOL? [c drive] [windows 2000]

admin / September 21st, 2010/ Posted in Computer Help / No Comments »

Q: Have you seen this error after doing some work on my pc and try to boot my C: drive. Happens immediately after the POST. The drive is easily found, but it never gets to Windows.

Any suggestions, or am I SOL?

Thanks,
Telstar

Re:I ended up booting with my Win2K CD, and using the repair console.

Thanks for the help … I'm up and running again.

Re:FDISK/ MBR still works with NT OS's. Try a repair, it has worked for me, once.

Re:I think, you should be able to do MBR on NTFS, as long as you are loged in as Admin.

Re:The disk is an NTFS formatted disk … would the FDISK /mbr still work?

Re:You can try booting with a BOOTDISK and doing the FDISK /mbr
to fix the MASTER BOOT Record.

If that doesn't do it, the Partition table may be damaged.

You can also try doing a Repair by booting with the Win2k CD
and choosing Repair (rarely works though).
