Accent shift causes game to windowed heels [format winxp] [dual sync]
Q: hope that a solution to this, please let me know if there is anything I can do to problem.
System Specs: Athlon 2GHz, NFS-7 V2, ATI X850 XT 256mg, 1gig DDR Dual Sync, Fresh Format WinXPPro clarify Install – Cat 7.3s used.
Did a new classification WinXP Pro install, installed. Net 2.0 and then the Cat 7.3 drivers from ATI website. The problem comes when I World of Warcraft in windowed mode. If I move the mouse over the taskbar floating objects, especially those with popup tooltips, my 3D window slow to very slow heel of about 2-3 FPS. Even if WoW is a loading screen and I alt-tab or mouse over something WoW will almost stop charging until I bring it back to the front. In full screen mode in any game this is rarely a problem.
Its a relatively minor annoyance, but things are always popping up and I alt-tab often – which can happen at a very inopportune times. The only settings I could think of X-Mouse Tracking and Scheduling Processor, neither of which had any effect. This did not happen on my last video card, fx5700ultra, and that is the only hardware that has changed in my system. So Im wondering is it a motherboard setting (fast writes on or off?), The drivers (I go back a version), or a Windows setting that I miss (something that real-time or prioritize w / e) 0.
LMK more information as I can, and I am open to suggestions.
Re:Games don't like being alt-tabbed or run at the same time as an application trying to steal CPU and memory as previously mentioned.
Re:Found some answers over at Rage3d.com, Link 1 (http://rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33888340) Link 2 (http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33832236) Link 3 (http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33883176). They say it has something to do with Ring0 access in WinXP? Could be ATI specific, but the other posters point to Microsoft as the culprit. Lmk if anyone has any suggestions based on the links, and thank you for taking time to read my post and offer help
Re:I can't help you because I don't have any answer and I am running ATI 7.3 driver without CCC with my Radeon X850 Pro. It works great with Madden 2007
Re:Did you have these issues before the 7.3 Catalyst driver? There were issues with it, but if I recall correectly ATI/AMD has corrected the issue. Some people have rolled back to 7.2 and 7.1.
Re:..
The application you are opening starts to hoard Cpu cycles and memory. Windows is trying to allocate something that is using all the Cpu and memory, and transfer it to the App.
When that happens, it steals resources from the game and makes it chop.
I think thats what's happening anyway
