Acer laptop computer problems search [acer laptop] [device manager]
Q: My father has an Acer laptop with a 1.6 GB 64-bit has processer with 1GB RAM, 100GB hard drive partitioned into two drives and with some trouble recently. All parts were included with purchase, nothing added.
When you click on my computer, the computer takes a long time (about 3 min) at all stations to display. The device manager has no errors. He gets the flashlight waving as if are looking for hardware or something. This only happens when my computer icon. All other folders / icons do not load and really fast. It recently started to do this .
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated .
Best Answer: Sounds kind of like a faulty keyboard? maybe it won't happen again, maybe it will. If it does you can always get a replacement keyboard for your laptop and fix the problem.
But, to maintain your computers health and speed it up, follow these steps.
Try closing out any unneeded programs running in the background as well to free up your CPU and ram.
Start – Run – type "msconfig" without quotes. and remove unneeded programs under the startup tab, such as aol or aim…. msn messanger. restart your computer.
Try cleaning your registry with RegScrubXP

Finish with a defrag of the hard drive.
Start – Run – Type "Defrag" and choose defragment.
You can also disable indexing of files on your hard drive to free up computer performance.
Go to my computer — Right click on your hard drive, then lift click on properties, at the bottom of this window it will say "allow indexing service to index this disk for fast file searching" uncheck that box, click apply, and apply to all files, folders and subfolders. it will take some time. But it will free up a little more resources for your computer to use, therefore speeding it up a little bit.
The ultimate solution to speeding up your laptop would be to purchase some more ram, if at all possible. This would for sure make your laptop quicker with everything you do.

Oh! one more thing, if you don't currently do this you really should! download Adaware free version. And perform a full system scan, it should update automatically when you install it. If it doesn't update it then update Adaware manually. You can also double up by using SpybotSD as well. These programs remove malicious software that most antivirus software misses. I do bi-weekly scans with this software. If adaware and spybot find a lot of stuff to remove then rejoice, your computer will probably run even better now.

Choose 'create a restore point'
Now,
Reinstall the all in one.
After the restart, START RUN (type) msconfig (type) STARTUP tab.
Untick the hp all in one – if there are several boxes, which are more than likely, untick one at a time and restart each time – see if that makes a difference.
Once you find the one that is causing the problem, try reticking the others if you want.

Re:I just removed the HP ALL IN ONE 7400 series (Wireless) printer and that solved my problem….Is there a way to have this installed without it searching all of the time and taking forever to show "my computer" contents????

The problem started about a week ago, apparently he had a hard time installing a All in one printer, which was plugged into the wrong port on the printer, the phone port. Which explains that he does not know much about computers!!!! LOL!!!!
