AGP problems and system instability [direct x 9b] [ecs 648fx]
Q: Ok, so I built this new computer: P4 2.6 GHz with HT, 800FBS, ECS 648FX-A mobo with AGP 8x support, 512DDR 333ram, my old 9800np to do (not stitched), everything seems okay, new drivers installed Direct X 9b, installing Max Payne 2 and it say AGP texture acceleration in the time available. Games are running, but still says Direct X AGP texture is not available, my card is also to say that AGP is disabled. I installed drivers for AGP mobo, the problem is resolved, run games a lot better now, but the only problem is that I can play for no more than 10 minutes. After that the system crashes. Ive tried different drivers for the card and it did not help, try to configure AGP setting in BIOS, and did not find where I can change speeds AGP, AGP only corectly set to 128MB. Read the manual BIOS, and do not find this option of changing AGP speeds everywhere. Does anyone know what could cause the system to crash? And how can I fix this?
Re:That's an interesting problem you have there…I think I remember hearing about that problem with ECS boards in the past, but I can't remember where. Anyway, it doesnt really matter since there is no tangile performance difference between 4x and 8x.
You might try posting it in general hardware, since more people read that forum…perhaps the video card forum
Re:I tried different AGP settings. its weird but at 4x AGP system is working just fine, why can't it work at 8x?
Re:there are plenty of posts in here about ati instability problems, might want to take a look through those….does your ati card have the extra power connector? if so, make sure its connected….it may even be a power supply or vid card overheating problem…you can always get asus to send you a replacement card if this one is bad
Re:Yeah pretty much all games freeze before 10 minutes. Once it switched to windows and there was an error message saying that drivers were unstable and it had to switch to software rendering, please submit report to ATI which I did, but I'm sure that this is motherboard issue, and i'm trying to contact manufacturer now, but they didn't respond yet.
Re:Do all games crash after 10 minutes? and what type of crash? does the system reboot or blue screen
you can try turning off agp fast writes in thie bios…and perhaps get the latest bios for your MB
