AMD760 DDR Asus board?!? – Edit, I'm psychic! [ali magik 1] [asus motherboards]
Q, Okay, I was over at Aces Hardware, and they have a chart of upcoming Asus motherboards.
The list looks like this. . .
A7V266 – AMD760
A7N266 – nVidia
A7A266 – Ali Magik 1
Now, at first glance, this is cool. There are at least three DDR motherboards for the Athlon is available from Asus. But I began to think about naming conventions Asus, and I began to wonder if they are not a 760 chipset board to make after all. . .
Here is my logic – Slot-A AMD-750 chipset is on board, of course, the K7M. The slot-A Via chipset, the K7V board. Then they moved to a container ax formet was the motherboard called A7V.
Thus would not imply that a board called u0026quot; A7V266 u0026quot, would be using the Via chipset DDR? Asus would not follow the naming convention and call it something like the A7M266?
What do you think? Am I paranoid or what?
EDIT – Im psychic! Rock n roll! Asus A7M266

Re:guy, right I understand that. I am just stoked because I said on September 10 Wouldn't Asus follow it's naming convention and call it something like the A7M266?.
And now, two weeks later, cha ching.

Re:Xerox Man, the board is called the A7M266 and does indeed feature the 760 DDR chipset.

Re:"CU" indicated Coppermine support, I believe. The P3V133 was a VIA P3 chipset with 133MHZ bus, 2X AGP. The P3V4X signifed 133MHz bus and 4X AGP.
P2B = Pentium 2 Motherboard, BX chipset.
P2B-F = as above, with 5 PCI
P2B-S = SCSI
P2B-D = Dual
P2B-L = Onboard LAN
I believe there was also a P2B-DSL or somesuch. The P3B-F had official Pentium 3 support, 5 PCI slots.
So they have a generally regimented nomenclature for their motherboards . . .

Re:Although multiple northbridges are possible, they are only required when you need more then 2-way smp, with each northbridge supporting 2 cpus. Smp with an athlon will be more efficient because the Ev6 bus rocks
back on topic, I think you're being just a tad too parinoid.

Re:You're just paranoid. Dont worry about it.
Anyway, I never get Asus's names, P2B, P2B-F, P2B-L, P3B-F, CUBX(most of these BX boards follow the name "P2", but the socket version was changed to "CU", "B" for BX, and they threw in the X after B for CUBX.)
P3V133, P3V4X, CUV4X (VIA boards, they start with "P3", maybe it was time after P3 came out, "CU" again for socket, "V" here obviously stand for VIA, and the "133" and "4X" is just a toss in. )
CUSL, CUSL2 ("CU" for socket, "SL" for Solano, "2" for ICH2)
I have never seen any definite patterns in their names, the only thing they have been doing consistently is all newer socket boards start with "CU".
K7M, K7V ("K7" for Athlon, all older Athlons are available in Slot-A so we can assume "K7" stands for that as well, "M" for AMD? or is it "M" for Irongate? "V" for VIA)
A7V ("A7" for Socket A maybe? "V" for VIA)
So I surprised too when they named an AMD chipset using "V".

Re:I believe so, yes.
You can place multiple 760 northbridges on the same motherboard; this way, dual Athlon processor systems have a more efficient use of bandwidth than Intel duallies.
Re:Hmmm interesting thought. I would expect it to be the AMD though because the VIA isn't expected for a while after the others.
Also does the 760 support SMP?
