Anyone with Netscape 6.0 yet? [netscape communicator 4] [would like your opinion]

admin / August 10th, 2010/ Posted in Software / No Comments »

Q: Has anyone tried the Netscape 6.0 browser? If you have, I on. I use .76. I do not know whether to upgrade to Netscape 6.0. What will I get if I change to 6.0?

Re:I'm using IE 5.01 and NS 4.76 and IE suX0rs!!! And so does NS6!!

The Bookmarks are still screwed up. You have to go to the Menu Bar to access them. Pages that look fine in NS 4.xx are totally screwed up in NS6. Ergonomics are wrong and AOHelled. It's a total pooch screw.

Guess it's NS 4.76 forever.:(

Disbelieve me? Get the WHOLE 25MB mess (http://ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape6/english/6.0/windows/win32/sea/N6Setup.exe).

Re:Would Opera have displayed those pages properly? I mean if AOL/Netscape can't get it right but a small firm like the one that created Opera can get it right, something is seriously wrong in the scheme of things, know what I mean? :P

Re:I have it installed, but truthfully its just wasting space. Around 25% of the pages I've viewed with it, don't display correctly. I have given up on Netscape and have completely switched to Internet Explorer. To me Netscape just isn't what it used to be!

Just my 2¢!

Re:The final version is out.

Re:guy:
On your #4 statement, my IE5.5 loads as it loads, I dont have to wait for eveyrthing to be d/l before i can see it all. I think theres a setting so you can dissable that in IE

Re:I prefer NS for a couple of reasons:

1. You don't automatically get whacked by viruses that exploit the security holes…er..features of Outlook Express.

2. The History List is nice and linear as opposed to IE's "helpful" arranging of sites by name.

3. If Netscape crashes, it doesn't take the whole computer down with it.

4. Pages load as they come down, instead of IE's need to hide the entire page until EVERY stupid element or banner ad gets downed. Retarded.

I looked at the first PR of NS6 and ditched it in about 3 minutes! It couldn't display my Bookmarks properly! Weak.

Re:is netscape 6 still as ugly as it was during the first release?

Re:To get back to the original topic… I have tried Netscape 6 PR3 and really liked it. Grant it didn't work 100% but the direction it is going is great. The themes idea is nice but the major improvement has been the engine. Page rendering speed is way up and on PR3 I noticed no speed difference with IE5.5 (without all the debug code hopefully it'll be even better). I saw on NT Compatible that they had finally released the none PR build but have not been able to download anything other then the 200K setup file. The folders are up on the Netscape ftp site but are note accessible. NTCompatible.com (http://www.ntcompatible.com)

Re:The reason Netscape doesn't display so many websites correctly is becuase they are designed using Microsoft's version of HTML (read "proprietary" HTML) using Frontpage. Don't get me wrong, Frontpage is great for someone that doesn't have the time to learn HTML but wants a great looking website. Anyway, if people would simply follow the W3C's standards when developing a website, then every browser would display correctly (IE, Netscape, Mozilla, Netpositive (BeOS) & Opera)

Re:I am by no means a Microsoft fan but why waste your time with Netscape? It can't display half the websites on the net correctly. I used to use Communicator way back when, but then I tried IE and then I realized what I was missing.

Re:<< The final is usually released when the bugs are worked out of the pre-release versions >>

Apoppin,

No, the release is simply a collecton of improved, more polished bugs. :)

Re:nope not me, i dont like netscape, always screws everything up

Re:I don't know the scheduled date.

The final is usually released when the bugs are worked out of the pre-release versions. :)

Re:When do they expect to have the final version available?

Re:It's still a pre-release. I'm waiting even though it's up to number 3. I tried No.1 and didn't like it.
