Apache 7.1 + + Swat Rhat – newb [refernce] [default options]
Q: OK. Here is the deal.
I m still learning, of course. Few questions here.
I him run Rhat 7.1:
I have Apache installed. I dld the source and compiled and installed with the default options.
Ive also done the same with Samba, but did not configure the beast yet.
The first thing I want to do is every time Apache loaded automatically. Any reference work I have found to do an assignment called the introduction of the inetd file that RH 7.1 has moved to xinetd is a directory, so Im lost. There is also mention of a call to put the command “apachectl start” in the rc.local file. So, which way do I go? And how?
If my apachectl file in “/ usr / local / apache / bin directory, how would I add the command to the rc.local file?
Second question bigger.
I m running Samba as I said earlier. I want SWAT up and running. There is the correct entry in the etc / services file, and there is also a swat.conf (I think thats the name) in my xinetd directory. If I boot into Linux, Apache, I start by hand, but there is nothing to respond on port 901. This is because Apache does not start automatically? Will it solve my first problem to solve this?
Thanks in advance
Best Answer: Go to Search in Start Menu, Search for documents and files and look for Apache.
Any known files relating to Apache will come up and their locations in folders and you will find them then.
If you do have Apache it may also be found in Add and Remove programs.
Re:<< btw, swat is its own web server, you dont need apache running for swat. >>
Thank god someone finally answered that. (it wasn't even a question up above, but I was wondering about it).
Preesh.
Re:btw, swat is its own web server, you dont need apache running for swat.
Re:Sweet.
Thanks for the help on getting apache to work. Now, I've got both up and running, and it wasn't cuz I was stoopid.
I stumbled onto a site where it discussed a bug in Xinet.d in Linux 7.0. So, taking a gamble, I ftpd over to updates.redhat.com and looked for an updated package of Xinet.d
I had to do an RPM -Uvh –force to get it to go (Rpm Fvh wouldn't work) but Swat and LinuxConf are now running. Next Step: Samba with Win 2k PDC SP2. Probably see another post from me soon cuz I've given up on getting Samba configed more times than I've tried to config it. (lol).
Re:Well…..
apache starts automatically now.
Now I have to figure out how to get LinuxConf web working, and SWAT working. Crimminy. My changes didn't work.
Re:Ok.
Added the rc.local command
/usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start
See if this works…..
Also changed SWAT.conf in xinet.d directory to "DIsable = no"
Rebooting now
Re:Nope.
Theres not. What's wierd is that there's a Xinet.d directory, but no file named xinet.d. THere are other configuration files there
Linuxconf web
rc
and Swat
but that's all.
Re:<< If my apachectl file is in "/usr/local/apache/bin" directory, how would I add the command to the rc.local file? >>
You would edit the rc.local file using your favorite text editor, and put /usr/local/apache/bin on a line at the end of the file.
Re:start combing through the files in xinetd. there's probably a commented out startup script already written for you.
