Ask to the sale of a system without cd win9x [win98 cd] [original cd]
Q: Another question concerning the sale of a system without win9x Original Cd.
had a few systems on its sale, but neither has the Win98 CD it.
legally I am able to sell Windows installed without the sale of the CD?
always was curious about this.
any help would be appreciated.

Also,if i have a backup copy of a win9X Cd,but have the legit COA,is this legal?
Any idea how much these run on the boards?
don't need the Cd's,just COA (if possible).

Re:Technically, it's not the CD that's important, it's the COA (certificate of authenticity). The COA has the original product code/ID printed on it and, if you have it, then you're covered. Interestingly, it really doesn't matter if the installed version numbers match the COA, just as long as you have a COA. Selling a system with the windows OS and NOT including the COA is technically illegal.
I happen to know this as I work in IT for a large company. When we install software/OSes, we use the EXACT SAME DISKS and product ID code for every PC. We just make sure we have the appropriate documentation (licenses) to validate the legality of our installs.

was just always curious how they do it,and if it was legal.
i have 2 systems with win95 installed,and was alo starting to get in a small buisness but wanted to know some legal info first.

you can sell the system with the caveat "you must supply your own license–OS installed for testing purposes only." many fleabay whores do this, but it's still officially illegal. check the license.
afaik, there is no legal way of doing what you're asking, unless you're sending a license (proof of purchase) and no cd.. in which case, you need to be sure and let the buyer know what s/he's getting.

Re:Not sure if you can do this with win98 but you could say that the person was supposed to buy a license from MS. I'm just not sure if you can buy a 98 license from MS without the SW I know you can for NT based.
