Re:First off, isn't old. I believe that would be *nix, DOS, Windows, a slew of other OS's. It is indeed obscure on the other hand.

However if you want to learn , go for it. More power to you. It's very fast, small, and elegant as hell. Whenever I boot into R5 computing is actually fun again. (For me, anyway)

Not terribly far off from now OpenBeOS R1 will be out the door, which will be binary compatible with R5. So anything that you did learn isn't going to be in vain.

Re:Unless you feel like playing with an old and obscure OS, really isn't worth learning. It never was very popular, there is very little commercial software available for it, and the company that created it is now out of business. There is a small hobbyist group that continues to support it, but it's probably safe to say that if won't be making a major comeback.

You would be better off learning UNIX, or Windows .NET Server. Personally, I'd give Linux or FreeBSD a try, because you can use things that you'll learn from those OS'es in almost UNIX-like operating system.

Re:If you got some free time go ahead. Personally, I found the last release of to be much more user friendly than any of the latest Linux distributions, so its not like its going to be a huge time investment.

Re:Its not really used anywhere. It could be fun to learn though. How much time do you want to spend learning something you may not ever get the chance to use much?
