Brother running bittorrent, how do I restrict access . [westell versalink] [dsl router]
Q: At this moment I have a Verizon DSL router (Westell Versa Link). I also have Symantec firewall installed on the client PCs, which pretty much will not do much because he can just turn off. What can I do to prevent someone from downloading stuff off bittorrent? Im just holy, that my parents will be held responsible if my brother downloaded something that is copyrighted .

Re:You won't be able to filter just bittorrent, as I said you can change the ports it uses very easily. The only real solution is to disallow all NAT traffic and install an application level proxy that will only allow HTTP.

Re:he doesn't use azureus, he uses bittorrent. I wish this stupid router had better filters, i tried forwarding the ports to another ip, that's about all i can do with this stupid thing. dang it.

Re:check your router for any options to restrict ports by logging in. you can do this by opening command prompt (start –> run –> cmd) and then type 'ipconfig'. then take a look at your 'Default Gateway'. type that address in ie or firefox or whatever (it usually looks like 192.168.X.X). then type in the right username/password.
if it doesn't have any, which is most likely since its a dsl router from your isp, then you might have to buy a seperate router for him to plug in to and restrict ports from there or go on his computer and mess with his settings. i would recommend you at least tell him about the safepeer plugin if he's using azureus.
