anyone else not do so well in the time trials? I get gold on everything but those… strategies?

Dont crash at all. Boost through the whole thing.

Re:Looks like i have something to keep me busy until i go to costa rica :D .

Re:I just picked up the game! :D

I'll giv emy impressions later

Re:The online has got to be the smoothest I have ever experienced. It truly is just like playing the single player. There is still traffic, the tracks are the same, all the cars are available. I barely noticed any lag at all. Online was what made the game great for me.

Re:My last thoughts before I head to bed.

- The tracks are laid out well. Most tracks I've seen thus far aren't too curvacious, but this lends well to the speediness of the game. I'm sure there are more curvy tracks out there, but I've yet to see them. I like the tracks in that in most places they are pretty wide, with lots of room to work.
- The control is spot-on!! When I want to do something, it does it. There's no lag or slow moving controls here. Once you get a handle on the controls, your car will do what you want when you want. Weaving in between 4 or 5 cars stopped at a stop light, shooting across the intersection between two cars going different directions, then cutting hard to miss a pylon to get to the other side of the road is completely possible anytime you want to do it, given you have the skills to do so.
- At first, I didn't like the slow-mo, real-time zoom on a car when you perform a takedown on it, but now I do. The zoom only lasts about 3 to 5 seconds, and you are still able to slightly adjust your car movement while doing so. I thought it would be hard to gain back control of your car once it zoomed back and regained full speed, but this isn't the case. Sometimes, when you car is out of sight during the zoom, it will properly align it back with the road, so you can take right off again like it was a clean takedown.
- I've found it easier to finish first quite consistently after a few races, some by a few seconds. With the rubber-band AI in full effect, this is pretty good to start with. I imagine it will get harder.
- There is a slight resemblance of NASCAR Thunder in here, if any of you have played it with it's alliance/grudge system. Although here, there are no alliances. When the race starts, you are "clean" with the other drivers, and they all have green arrows overtop their cars. Once you try to wreck them or even accidentally bump into them a few too many times, their arrow turns to red, and they're out for blood. And once it's red, it stays that way for the rest of the race. This way, you know if you pull alongside them, they WILL ram you into the wall or whatever else is there. It's possible to attack them first, so it's not aggravating at all. You just gotta have position.

Re:I only have Gamecube :( sux not for that or pc. I loved the series for Gamecube.

Re:OMG I need to get this game now and I have a PS2. :(

Re:Well, just got done playing an hour of it, and I must say I really like it. I have the . Here are my thoughts about it:

- The sense of speed is great so far. I have yet to move up to the super cars, but the lowest cars give an excellent feel to careening in and out of traffic at high speeds.
- The graphics are top notch, and look very much the part of an arcade racer. Nothing here is outstanding, but it does look pretty like it should.
- The control is good once you get used to it. It borderlines on loose and tight, which is a good thing I guess. You'll eventually get a feel for how far you can push the car around a turn before the back end slides out.
- The crash mode is pretty fun, but will probably dull after a while. No matter how many times you enter a crash event, you start from the same location, heading towards the same cars entering the intersection at the same time, with the cash and multiplier icons in the same places. Of the first 10 crash events I've tried, it's never taken more than 3 tries to get the gold, so it seems fairly easy so far. The good thing? There are a 100 of them :D .
- Online is a mixed bag at this point. I couldn't seem to get a good connection to hardly any games, although this could just be coincidence. When I was online, there was a ton of people on, with a ton of races going on as well. For a good stretch, I was unable to join any games due to people kicking me out (for whatever reason) or losing connectivity. What I did play online was pretty fun. Road rage is fun on both sides of the car, with the blue team trying to get a certain distance down the road and the red team trying to take them out. From what I played, I was surprised to find out that being the blue team was a tad easier for me. I'd like to see it a bit harder to crash the blue team, as right now it seems way too easy.

I'll post more later on. If anyone has any questions, ask.

Report back, quick! :)

I think I liked the way you could only use boost when it was full in Burnout 2 better, instead of just whenever you have it like you can in 3… but we'll see how it grows on me… I'm done for today but I like it.

Last I heard, it does not. I would not mind if you proved me wrong, however.

Just got back from picking up my copy on my lunch break, but will have to give my impressions later tonight when I get home from work.

According to the high def database, it does indeed support it. Just have to hold triangle and cross when starting up, just like burnout 2.

I was just reading over at the gamefaq forums, and according to someone's post, the back of the PS2 box does say it supports 480p. BUT, the Gamespot review says that the PS2 version does NOT support 480p. So I have no idea now what the truth is. I would believe Gamespot over a random post on the internet, but you never know, big sites have made mistakes in this area before.

Re:Also has Dolby Digital 5.1 while PS2 only has Pro Logic II.

Re:you're right, it doesnt look as bad as I though. Hrm, now I'm torn! Silent Hill is $30 for the PC and I was going to pick that up. Now, I want Burnout. I mean, is it really that fun? Do the crashed get old quick?

Re:Well, word on the street is that the PS2 and XBOX versions are nearly identical, and the differences are only noticable when compared side by side. Both versions support 16:9, and the only leg up the has is 480p. But I wouldn't be concerned with the PS2 version looking shoddy. Check any screenshots, and the difference between the two is negligable (sp?) at best.

As for me, I also will be on Live by the end of the week, hopefully tomorrow night. I'm assuming I'll be able to find this one tomorrow with no problems and no reserve, but with the stellar review scores it's been getting, you never know. Just the reviews I know of so far:

IGN Review (http://xbox.ign.com/articles/544/544204p1.html) – 9.5
Gamespot Review (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/driving/burnout3/index.html) – 9.5 (Amazing score from GS by the way)
EGM magazine gave it 9.0 and 9.5's, with the Game of the Month award.
XBOX Nation magazine gave it a 10 out of 10 with the Game of the Month award.

These scores are crazy high! I haven't seen surprise scores like this since the Tony Hawk games. I've been looking forward to this game for a couple of months now, and I'm glad to see that hopefully all these scores will put more suckers on Live for me to beat :) .

EDIT: I created my own comparison screenshots just to prove what I am saying. These are screens I had to get from Gamespot and IGN. I tried to get them as close as I could.

Burnout PS2 and XBOX Comparison (http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/blurredvision/compareburnout.JPG)

As you can see, the does look a bit cleaner. Much cleaner and clearer text on the XBOX. The lines on the PS2 are horribly aliased, but this is not surprising on the aging PS2 hardware. The distance in the is MUCH cleaner as well, with textures still very discernable from afar.

Yes, the looks better, but the PS2 version does not disappoint. REMEMBER, you'll mostly be going atleast 150MPH in this game, do you really care (or be able to see for that matter) the imperfections compared to the XBOX?

I'm sure IGN will have a head-to-head sometime soon, so I'll still a screenie and post it here later.

Im playing the xbox, and the gfx are incredible. Then again I've got it running on 480p on a 47 widescreen, but Ive seen the PS2 version and it wasnt THAT far off.

Oh really? Cool!

Re:Xbox or PS2 guys? Which one you playing? I only have a PS2, and the gfx look a little shoddy :(

Re:This is quite honestly one of the greatest games I have ever played. Ive been a big fan of burnout 2, but this has taken it to an entirely new level. My roomate never even played burnout 2, but he probably loves this game more than me. There is not a single thing to complain about. Its as close to a perfect game as you could ever possibly want.

Put in a custom soundtrack of some heavy ass songs, and play it loud, get a big tv, and this game will take you places.

Re:been playing it for a couple of days now
Simply AWESOME game in every perspective.
I've enjoyed every minute I've put into it thus far.

Re:Honestly, Burnout 1 & 2 were two of the best arcade style racers, I'll definately be picking up although it may not be for a while, due to the fact that Fable comes out next week.

Re:definitely on par with the recent racer releases (NFSU, PGR2, Doom 3)

I agree. A bit too dark though, and you can't use the steering wheel and headlights at the same time.

Re:Burnout 2 was awesome, it's only downside was that it was too short. It looks like will be better.
