Best Answer: Well if you want to encrypt your wireless bandwidth then you would use WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc. They are encryption protocols that are used to protect your wireless access, so that other people can't use it and potentially slow down your internet connection. If there are lots of people accessing your wireless service then you will have slow internet access, but if you encrypt it with the above then only you and your household will have access to the wireless access you are paying for.
There are a few firewalls and I don't know which one you are talking about. You have Windows Firewall (which comes on every Microsoft computer), your anti-virus firewall software, and your router has a built in firewall. You can disable them all if you wanted I suppose, but most people keep their router firewall on and their anti-virus firewall on. However, some people do have issues with their anti-virus firewall and so I would assume that when they said to disable it that's the one they were speaking of.
Hope that helps. Good luck.
EDIT: WEP is only an encryption option that your router provides you. It is optional and not needed to connect to the internet. I googled this "52100 error code ds" and actually came up with a YA! link. He basically said to go into your router and put your IP and MAC address into your DS router web page. It doesn't disable your firewall but allows your computer to access the internet through the firewall. Basically you probably are getting blocked but what you need to do is to make it so that the firewall allows you to access the internet. This will take some knowledge of your router, so grab a DS manual and good luck.
EDIT: Follow the below link which was what someone below posted. Nintendo already has instructions on what to do.

Re:DMZ with Ping Enabled.
Then use software firewall, it's easier to maintain if you're a savvy internet user.
Go with Linksys (or I should say Cisco now?)
Re:If you've put it in the dmz, everything should work since it will forward all ports to your pc. You might double check your settings and be sure its forwarding to the right internal address. I still favor forwarding limited ports over using the dmz though.
If you're dealing with home networking equipment, its all crap relatively speaking. Personally I think linksys is the best of it and dlink is the worst, but everyone has their own opinions. At least linksys now has cisco behind it too.
Re:yea…i put mine on dmz along time ago…but it just doesn't work….i tried also forwarding some ports but that didn't work also…well unless im doing it wrong….i did hear about some programs that will open ports when you need it automatically but i don't know should i use that…and if im going wireless…which brand should i go with…i was thinking about switching to d-link
Re:First, you cannot disable your firewall if you want to be able to share your Internet connection. NAT, which you are using to share your Internet connection, by defination is a firewall since it blocks all unsolicited inbound traffic. What you can do is open ports like guy said or you can put your 1 PC in the DMZ and have it "out" on the Internet. With your PC in the DMZ though, you will not have the protection of your NAT firewall so, it would be wise to install some software variant to protect your PC.
Re:Don't disable the firewall, there is no reason to. Search google to find out the ports the services you want to use work over and forward those ports to the target computer. It should be easy to find the appropriate ports.
Wireless is nice too.
