Can I use my PC with a wireless card as router? [xbox live] [special software]
Q: Hey, Im at school, and there are two problems, one is that routers are not permitted, and two is that they have special software installed on all PCs need, so Xbox Live will not work. My PC is connected via Ethernet, I wondered whether I use the wireless card in it so anything else can connect?
Also, a wireless connector thing for the Xbox that WPA or WEP?
Oh support, and my friend wants to use GameSpy Arcade, but apparently the ports are blocked or something like that, is there a way for him to ports to divert to his own computer so it will work?

Is the software they make you install something like Smart Enforcer?
Don't know, it's their own thing.
And the reason they gave for it is to make sure people don't have any viruses or security flaws when they log onto the network, an xbox wouldn't have any of those anyhow.

Lol, ok, routers aren't allowed, but a PC can't be used as an access point for wireless devices to connect to and it'll reroute the connections?
Yes, they can. But that is essentially a router and it would hopefully get someone's network access removed if they tried it.
That way the school would never know, heck, maybe they wouldn't even care, I know other people have done it(I pick up their wireless networks when they turn their computers on), plus the software they want installed is already installed on the computer, so everything is fine.
If they didn't care there wouldn't be a rule against it.
And I doubt the admins would open the ports, there's no way to reroute them using a firewall software or something?
They setup the firewall the way they did for a reason. If you want it changed, ask.

Dosn't the bolded part give you a clue to the answer to the question in the title?

He should ask the admins to open the ports. That's the only worthwhile thing to do. Well that and study. And drink. And get laid.
