Can you nest Distribution groups in AD? [distribution groups] [mcsa]
Q: Umm, yes, simple enough question. I was in groups 1, 2 and 3 make up Group A thought, so I would have with the group A, it remains to be members of groups 1, 2 and 3. My MCSA / E stuff is a bit rusty, so please forgive me if this is a fairly simple question = D
Re:From Microsoft (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/ad/ad/nesting_in_mixed_mode.asp):
Be aware that distribution groups can be nested according to the nesting rules for native mode.
Re:If you're running mixed mode you wont be able to nest global groups, you need to be in native mode to nest global groups regardless of what the group types are. If you arent already running native mode this alone would be a good reason to upgrade your functional level.
It's also been a while since I've done much work in mixed-mode enviroments, there arent many people out there still running NT domain controllers…

if i wasnt mistaken you can only do this in native mode.
IIRC, this only applies to security groups, not distribution groups. However it has been a while since I have dealt with mixed-mode so it is entirely possible that my memory is faulty. ![]()
Re:I know that you can have nested Distribution Groups in Native mode, and IIRC you can in mixed mode as well.
