Closed holes in floppy IDE cables u0026 [pinholes] [cables]

Q: older motherboards, Ive noticed, have an extra pin on the floppy and IDE connectors, thus rendering useless with a closed hole. Why is this and what is the easiest way around this? I have plenty of , but not all compatible, and even if I had to go out and the that have to buy extra hole, I would not know what to call them.

Re:I had the same situation, lots of and couldn't use them. Started heating up the end of a paper clip and using it to open up the hole (for those that didn't have a plug in them) and it's been working fine. Just a suggestion.

Re:I think it's just to prevent you from plugging the cable in upside down which is a common problem among the inexperienced computer users of the world. There shouldn't be any problem with bending the pin out of the way or cutting it off. But I can't really recommend doing that because it just doesn't sound like a good idea.

Re:See if you can pry the pin plug out with a needle. That's the only idea I could think of.
