Do you have Windows “adjusted for best performance” [desktop icons] [best performance]

Question: My friend showed me this techie. It seems to windows to make a little faster on my system and look more hard core, P. The only option I picked up the shadows behind . If you try, you will be able to make ClearType display by the way.

Best Answer: Three things:

1) Download and install the latest drivers. Restart the computer and rerun PCPitstop full tests.
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/dr…

2) In PCPitstop run "running programs" test.
http://www.pcpitstop.com/spycheck/scan.a…
In the results it will list "programs that can be disabled to improve computer performance". Open MSconfig and uncheck the boxes for these programs and restart. Rerun rerun PCPitstop full tests.

3) You may have an Internet Explorer add-on that is killing your video performance. It happened to me.

In IE tools – Programs – Click on “Manage Add-ons”. Disable all add-ons except PCPitstop. Restart IE and rerun PCPitstop full tests. If now your video speed is OK enable an add-on and restart IE. Repeat until you find the add-on(s) that are causing the problem.

And as for my opinion, which my post-wh0ring side conveniently forgot to post, I don't think I coud live without the cool shading on the drag/select rectangle in folders :D

Agreed.

I have a moderately powerful system (nothing extreme, but meet XPs system requirements by more than a bit)…I want to feel I'm using those resources for something other than games.

In the old P4 1.4Ghz I use at work I turn all the eye candy off, though. Otherwise it's quite sluggish. But if your machine can handle it, why not?

And as for XPs 'Fisher price' look…there are literally thousands of skins and costumizations around. XP can look quite sexy with the correct tools.

i run windows 2000 for that very reason.

Man… five years and people still won't stop complaining about Luna.

You know, there are alternative color schemes available for Luna, not just the default blue. I can't imagine the silver theme would remind you of Fischer-Price toys.

I run at best appearance settings. Since there is no performance difference, I figure why not run it with the most appealing possible visual style. People who believe they see a difference are either running rediculously slow machines(sub 600mhz) or are under the influence of the placebo effect.

Hmm… maybe it's just me, but even with a custom theme and everything set otherwise to "Best Appearance", trying the "" settings while opening multiple programs & running a high-cpu load, I couldn't see a difference… not even a placebo

guy, you specifically, have a *much* faster system than mine, though mine's decent enough to begin with… maybe when it comes to higher-end systems, there isn't much of a performance difference regardless? BTW, gorgeous setup you have there… do you keep your Boomstick next to it while you frag away in UT? ;)

I notice a much better performance when doing this on low-end systems. Menu's are a lot quicker and Windows snap into place.

Re:I can't live without my animated mouse pointers. An hourglass should rotate from time to time right? (hmmm…maybe I wouldn't have an hourglass if I wasn't using animated pointers though…interesting)

Yes, but depending on the mood and the system I will select the following:

Smooth edges of screen fonts
Drop shadows for icons
Visual styles on windows

They are the same settings I use :D
