Do you think it's worth buying one just for PS/PS2 the FF games? [ff games] [ebay]
Q: I have FF2 and FF3 on the SNES and they were two of my favorite RPGs. I never bought a PS or PS2, so I never got the chance to one of the later FF games. My question is, do you think its worth buying a PS on ebay for $ 25 just so I can play those games? Are they really that good?
What about buying a PS2 just for FF games that were released on the game? I think the FFX and X-2?
Re:^ good points, there are a lot of good PS2 RPGs, it's just that only 1 of them is a FF (X). Plus good non-RPGs like Katamari Damacy.
I have the slim PS2 and it's very nice, but of course is around $135 (when GottaDeal finds a coupon/discount) vs. $25 for a used PS1. Worth it if you do want to play enough non-FF games.
Re:If you don't have a PSX or a PS2, it is much more worth it to buy a PS2 since you will be able to play all the games (PSX & PS2). But, personally, I believe it is kind of waste to get a PS2 for JUST the FF games, they haven't exactly been the highlight of my PS2 gaming time.
Xenogears, Front Mission 4, Disgaea, Shadow Hearts Covenant, Legends of Dragoon, Dragon Quest 8, Wild Arms, Kingdom Hearts. All awesome RPGs.
Edit: If it were my choice, I'd get the latest slim line PS2 and get all the RPGs from both generations that I wanted to play, but just make sure you get the best and don't get stuck playing crappy ones. IE: If I were to list every RPG for PSX and PS2 that you could play tomorrow, FFX-2 would be pretty low down the list, mainly because a large portion of the game is a rehash of FFX (similar environments, similar monsters, etc).
Re:PS1 lets you play FF4 – 9 and Chrono Trigger (in the FF Anthology or Collection, forget which), and the games can be found for around $15 each on eBay or Amazon used sellers. And you can always sell the PS1 after your several hundred hours of fun.
PS2 is harder to justify, since most people liked FF X but many hated X-2. Previews of XII are pretty negative so that 1 extra game ( X ) is costing an extra $115 (console + game) unless there are other PS2 titles you want to play.
Re:FFX and FFX-2 were both great games. FFXII is due out this year too.
