Done with Linux . Moving to Win2K- [dual booting] [linux]
Q: I tried Linux, think its just not me.
I am looking to dual-boot Win98 SE and Win2K. Any advice (other than going back to Linux .: D)
Any links to tutorial would be welcome!
Re:my laptop has win2k with winme.. works great.
guess i'm not the only one dualing on a laptop. woohoo
Re:Yes- Use Win2K at work.
The problem with Linux is that I don't have much of an interest in programming, and for all of it's faults, Windows is just plain more convienient.
Re:I love Linux but I always keep windows around for LAN parties and gaming.
Re:yes guy don't let the fear of entering a different world scare you away…
Linux is quite different from the point&click&configure OSs of Microsoft, but you can
make a good Os installation with lots of applications and a nice GUI with it….
Follow guy lead, install an easy distro like mandrake ( vs7.2 should do ) and keep
and open mind….
Anyway you can even triple boot with w98se/w2k/linux and decide what is what, later you
delete the linux partition if you give up on it….
If need any help installing linux don't be affraid to ask, We'll be here for you….
( edits: spelling… gosh these fingers love to run around pressing stupid keys
)
Re:What was wrong with Linux where it made you go back to Windows? I just installed Mandrake Linux yesterday and love it already.
Just wondering
Re:ya i don't think you need win98 at all. Everything should run fine on Win2K. Except for Links2001. Damn i tried reinstalling like 2000 times, called MS tech support, they give me patches, but still won't work.
Re:Have you tried 2k yet? you'll probably find you don't need 98. games run fine, it's been out long enough that most hardware is supported.
Re:Thanks all!
Didn't know it was that easy…
True… I am now less geeky, however, it just doesn't seem right to have to recompile the OS for the most basic of functions!
Nothing against the Linux folks, I just don't feel the time spent configuring the OS is worth the payoff.
(/me feels the flames a'comin!)

Re:Win2k is very good with that.
It recogonizes all of it and boom its installed and done.
Ive migrated completely away from 98 now though.
Have not had a issue with 2k yet, and I game quite a bit.
Re:Very simple to do.. Just make sure you install Win9X on its own partition first.. Then Win2K will take care of the rest..
Re:Dual boot with winME and win2K works great for me, even on my laptop…
Just install one OS, winME and them install win2K into a diffent directory and when booting it should give you two options…. That easy…
Re:This is the reverse of what I normally see…
Way to go dude. Welcome back to the land of the not-so-geeky computer user ![]()
