DSL loses sync Linksys router [prestige 645] [linksys router]

Q: I use a Zyxel ADSL modem and a (BEFSR41). I have my computer and the router setup properly (as far as I know, I tell the computer to obtain IP address automatically and put my static IP info on the router) and when I connect the DSL modem (synced up when I do ) I lose sync a few seconds later and are unable to sync again unless I unplug the modem from the router and power cycle the router. Any ideas?

/edit its a modem btw.

Re:I didn't have to do this on my setup. The router was set to static IP, with the DSL modems IP address as gateway, and then I manually typed in the DNS addresses.

ya, the dsl light goes off, and then flashes intermitantly as if its trying to connect. but it never does unless i unplug it from the router and power cycle the modem.

Sounds like the Router is trying a connection that will not work and the DSLAM at the ISP/Teco is going into reset. Most DSL is PPoe, check what your Router is trying to do.

i dont follow. PPoe? I'm just learning this stuff, can you elaborate?

Re:What do you mean by losing sync? The connection light goes off? I just got a Zyxel 645 and a going yesterday with no problems.
