Dynamic disk equivalent in NT? [gig hd] [dynamic disk]
Q: My C: drive is 4 gigs and from the area. I want another 4 gig HD add, but I want some of the c: drive.
ie August 1 gig I would like to see c:
possbile?

It's wherever the 1024th cylinder lands, which in 99% of the cases is ~7.8G. If you make it bigger, it will work for a while but as soon as some file gets pushed past the 1024th cylinder by any software installation it will fail to boot.

Also, during the install you can specifiy a new atapi.sys from sp4 (or higher) and get a 7.8GB parttion maximum during install rather than 4gb.

You can't create a volume set on the boot/system partition. What happens if the ftdisk.sys driver (manages volume sets), or any boot start driver for that matter, gets laid down on the second member of the volume set? The OS won't be able to find the second member of the volume to load the file until ftdisk.sys is started. Classic chicken and the egg problem here.
Second, NT4 won't support a system partition larger than 7.8GB. See Q224526.

PQMagic won't help because his disk is only 4G, he wants to concatinate another disk onto the first one.

Yea, it first setsup fat and then converts, so your stuck with the fat16 limit. I don't miss NT (but I don't miss the 9x platform even more!)

No, not possible with 2K/XP either, you can't extend the boot volume. And with NT your stuck with that 4gig partition unless you Ghost the image over to a larger drive (the NT install intitally formats as FAT16 then converts, so it's limited to 4gig).

Where I work tons of pcs have multiple pcs have two or more partitions….I saw one with 4 the other day:confused:

Re:found out why Extended Set wouldn't highlight. I had to press CTRL and highlight the 2 drives 1st. ARRG
