EVGA GeForce 6800 GT high temps [evga geforce] [ambient temp]
Q: Well, I do not OC at idle and 63ish under load in 80-85s. I have a good airflow around the case with a 120 to withdraw from the front, a 80 to withdraw from the side and pulling a 120 from the back with the PSU. My video card fan is working and my ambient temp is about 44.
My CPU is about is about 44
MoBo 40
I hours running the latest drivers from Nvidia just came out. I have the old removed, rebooted, ran Driver Cleaner, rebooted and installed the new 71.89 drivers.
Now I do not know why the VC is so hot, or if the temp bug in the last set of drivers crpping again but I thought they had tried hard it.
I doing the OC to 402 trick but the temp remained the same. I get no crashes or hangs, but I have a small graphic glitch when playing Act of War, I stopped playing and saw the temp was near 88. : I restarted and the glitch was gone, but I did not play much longer to see if it came back.
Now I just built this machine and tried to ensure that the airtemps were good, but this has shocked me and I am parinoid about frying my stuff 0.
Any ideas? Does the card run hot, is it okay? Its just a temp bug is still in the new drivers, I did not install correctly? Please help.
Thanks,

Re:It is accurate, it's not anything you should sweat if nothing bad is happening. Try getting some better ventilation for your case, or if you want to void your warrenty there are a few good options as to what you can do. First cheap option, reapply some thermal grease to the stock cooler, AS5 being the suggested. Or Two you could get an NV5 which would be even better.
But there's nothing to be worrying about if your system is not exhibiting any bad signs from the high temps. They're stinking hot cards man. You still have a decent way to go before you're in the danger zone as well, so stop sweating it.
(Mine idles at 60ish and hits into the mid 80s under artificial full load)

Re:I too am also having high temperatures on my eVGA 6800gt as reported by NVidia tools – under load my card is in the upper 90s degree C. I am a little concerned about this but don't know if it is accurate or not. I'm using the latest 71.89 drivers…..

Re:Those temps are exactly what I was getting with the same card in my poorly ventilated Prescott system before I got an NV5.
However, those video cards can and will run hot, regardless.

Re:AMD 64 3500+ 43 idle
Asus A8N-SLI 40 idle
inside of the case is cool to touch
I opened up a few PCI slots below the card and my idle speed has dropped to 57 and Ambient to 37
I am still wondering if the card is really that hot or if it is a bug. The card is warm but not hot to the touch and the shroud that holds the fan on the bottom is cool.

Re:Well according to nVidias monitoring software the 6800GT I had ran in the 90s C. An I had no problems.
Also according to ATITools my 850 runs in the mid to high 90s C. So who do you believe? If it is indeed running that hot and there is no problem, it doesn't really matter then.

Re:well, heres a bump for ya and you should list some system specs.
what cpu is running at 45, is that idle or load? could just be a hot case pushing the temps up.
it is surprising, gts run hot but both of my 6800gts ran at 65ish load, low 50s, high 40's idle. both were evgas also.
