Expanding the wireless network to come .? [wireless access point] [linksys wireless]
Q: ok please forgive me for asking, but should be easy to answer for some of you. I have a wireless home network with a Linksys wireless G router. Now I have a friend who has an old Linksys wireless G access point that he isnt used anymore and is willing to give me. Can I use that wireless access point to the range of my wireless network to extend linksys? Is this as simple as running an Ethernet cable from the router to a new area of the house and the addition of the access point? or is that not necessary? Somehow I can set it up as a repeater for the network? or is this all fantasy? Thanks for any help.

Re:If cabling isn't an issue, just run a line frmo them ain router to the AP and put it somewhere central to the house. Might evne cover the whole house in which case you could turn off the wireless on the main router. If you are going to have both, you could set them up with the same SSID and it should just pick the stronger signal and connect to it. Not sure if you have them with different SSIDs and both within range and both preferred… Might flip-flop back and forth a bit.

Re:so since i am already using a wireless router and then would connect the access point to it using an ethernet cable is there anything i need to set up specifically? am i going to create interference with multiple wireless access points meaning #1 the router and #2 the access point now?
i guess i'm asking how?

Re:You have to check the Data Sheet of the Gift to see if it can work as a Repeater (many can not).
Take into consideration that past the Repeater you get only half of the bandwidth that the unit gets.
Technically a one cable solution to the second unit yields better results when configured like this, Using a Wireless Cable/DSL Router as a Switch with an Access Point (http://www.ezlan.net/router_AP.html)
