Fishy Troubles Solved IDE CDROM * * Pederv = Problem [cd rw] [cdr]
Q: Hi All, a SCSI CDR
I recently removed and replaced with an IDE CD-RW. All along, I had one (works perfectly) 50X IDE drive along the side of the CDR. The new IDE CD-RW works like a charm, reading and writing. However, my old 50X seems no longer capable of reading CDs. If I have a CD (say, MS Office) the drive spins and when it is * almost * to load, it basically just goes to sleep. Again, this drive did not load before I installed the CD-RW and CD-RW can read CDs just fine. Also, the disk does not see in my BIOS and * is * given by Windows (XP Pro).
Has anyone had this problem or know what I can do?
Thanks,
Zach
Re:I'm having the same problem with my 50X cdrom, It take wayyyy to long to access files, It was fine with my old mb setup.
If I d-click on Mycomputer it takes at least 15 or more seconds to open, even with no cd in the drive! If thers a cd in ther it's even longer.
I'll try the delete the cdrom in my devices, unplug and restart the thing. Hope it works or else!

Re:so what was happing was the drive not detected by XP?
Re:Glad to be of some help.
Re:Thanks guy. Everything is cool now…the shut down -> unplug -> shut down -> plug method worked for me. It's funny how obvious problems seem when the correct answer stares you in the face
Anyway, thanks for you help, and don't worry, the jumpers are fine
Thanks!
Zach
Re:Sometimes I forget the obvious question:
Are the master/slave jumpers correct on the cd drives?
Re:Sorry I wasn't clear…The drive is not autorunning *or* able to read any of the data on the drive. I'm going to try shutting down etc now…
Hope it works.

Re:Is it just not autorunning or is it you can't read the drive at all?
Have you tried shutting down, disconnecting the drive, starting windows, shutting down, reconnecting the drive?
