GF3 Ti200 GF4 advice on vs Ti4600 [geforce4 ti4600] [geforce3 ti200]
Q: I have the reviews on the new release of the cards and I am curious, in your own personal opinion, if its worth the upgrade to the GeForce4 Ti4600 GeForce3 Ti200 from my. I really like the added performance of 4600 has to offer, but Im looking for some advice on this subject. Thanks
Re:It depends on what game settings you play at and what framerates you're after. If you demand high resolutions, high eye candy and high framerates like me then the upgrade is definitely worth it. I'm going to be upgrading my Ti500 to a Ti4600 if the Radeon 8800 flops.
Re:If you are running the resolutions you like and getting smooth gameplay, why upgrade? When the day comes a game won't play to your satisfaction then upgrade, it will be much cheaper.
Re:I agree you could sell the ti 500 and buy a ati oem 8500 then when the ti4600 comes out you would be ready to buy that … and you would stillget exelent dx8.1 performance untill then… of course you are only saving about $50 buy doing this … your other choice is to do without gaming untill you get your new 4600 but that would just make you buy it as soon as it comes out and pay too much for it.. I guess it is up to you…
Re:I'd agree with that. Unreal 2, however, as it stands right now, is far more demanding than most games–and will require a Geforce 4 for a high resolution or FSAA at an average resolution. On the other hand, by june, it could be optimized for much better performance and I suppose the test Anand did was one of the more complex situations of the game, so others might be less difficult for a Ti-200.
Of course, if someone is going to move to a Geforce 4, now is the time to sell your current hardware–you have to strike while the demand is still there.
Re:I wouldn't upgrade, just overclock your Ti 200 to around Ti 500 stock speeds, and you have one sweet card. Wait for the GeForce 5's, or wait a few months to find out what the best GeForce 4 is, and the prices will come down. You aren't gonna see a big difference from the GeForce 3's to much.
Theres only a handful of games that actually are optimized to take advantage of the geForce 3's special effects, let alone GeForce 4.

Re:You'll get a benefit definitely under Unreal 2. Definitely. I'd sell the Ti500 today though to maximize your profit from it unless you have a reason to keep it. When is Unreal 2 coming out? Will the next gens be out by that time?
I'm not seeing why the 4600 is that much more attractive than the 4400 though, considering the price.
Re:I've got a similar dilemma. I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade to the Ti 4200, 4400 or 4600 from the Ti 500. I don't think I'll see a visual difference between the cards and I'm not sure I need the extra kick. What do you guys think? Will I see a visual difference with the new cards? The main reason for wanting the new card is to play Unreal 2 and Unreal 2T.
Re:If you love FSAA and are willing to pay for it, yes.
If not, it would really make sense to wait for the next generation that will really do a number with Doom 3.

Re:I really don't think you would see a very noticable performance difference in games, but it also depends on what the specs of the rest of your system.
