Google already bundled on Dell machines [inquirer article] [dell machines]
Q: Inquirer article (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=29548)
SOURCES confirmed an earlier Wall Street Journal about the Google and Dell signed an agreement on desktop configurations.
How worth much in the deal financial terms is still a matter of guesswork, however.
One source told the INQ: “Dell has been bundling and the Google Search toolbar for Internet Explorer”. This person works for a software company in the hardware department and thus has access to the new Dells that delivered.
Another Reader said: “I was surprised that Google Desktop pre-installed on a new Optiplex at work. The homepage for the browser here. It seems that the deal is already underway. “
A system in Virginia told the INQ has just delivered several Dell machines with Google Desktop bundled.
We reported last year that Dell UK was bundling Firefox with its machines. μ
Well seems Google is the next Microsoft
Re:Google Desktop Search is a nice program, much better than the crap search Microsoft provides. at least, most of the time.
This doesn't change a thing. Even without this deal, people who wanted to would have done a clean install anyways. Those who didn't would just have a nice extra piece of software. No loss. No gain. QFT

Re:I don't mind the toolbar…but the Google Desktop…ugh.
If I ever buy a Dell, I'd do a clean install before even turning it on once.
Re:I for one, like the Google Toolbar (installed from Googles site or thru Firefox) … but I do not want
the Google Desktop
Re:Glad I build my own boxes; I really hate all the garbage bundled software and boot-crap that comes with pre-built systems. Of course, that's not to say you can't buy a pre-built and just reformat. And I know some people love Google and everything they make, but I don't; to each, their own.

HAHAHAHAHAHA
Re:Yeah my new Dell XPS 400 came bundled with the google toobar and google desktop. Problem was that everytime I tried to open a web page it kept bouncing me back to a random google search page with the Dell logo. Was driving me freaking crazy. I uninstalled their version of the google tool bar and went and downloaded the one off googles home page. Problem fixed.
