Hard Drive u0026 CD drive arrangement . How does this look? [c amp] [48x cd]
Q: Is it easy to arrange the disks in this way?

D: u0026quot; Master u0026 quot; 977,503 —- u003e IDE Secondary

Is there a better way of controlling the drives? . Not interested in RAID.

Re:The reason is even though they call them busmaster controllers it means that they may not need the processor to read or write all the information. But you can only read or write to 1 drive at a time on a cable. It may switch between the two very fast but only 1 drive is active at a time. If you set the drives up on seperate cables because of busmaster drivers you may be able to read from one cable and write to the other. This could be important especially on older systems, however it shouldn't be. Keep your hd on seperate cables therefore it follows thet the cdroms will be on seperate cables.HTH

Re:I always kept my cdrom/cdrw on the same controller so as to keep like devices on the same controllers (hard drives, etc.)…until Nero Burning Rom software told me that this setup could cause a problem when "burning on the fly". If you don't burn that way, then go with master/slave cdrom/cdrw on same controller, but if you want to burn on the fly, put the two on different controllers.
Do you have hard drives on a separate controller? (like an add-on ata-66/100 card or something?)…if that's the case I would definitely put the two cd devices on separate controllers.

Re:Generally you want to keep whatever you are burning to on a seperate channel than what you want to burn from. But I think that setup would work too…
