Q: Has anyone ever encounter this error in WinXP for:

On a bluescreen:

Stop: C0000221 Unknown Hard Error
SystemRoot system32 ntdll.dll

Or this?

On a black screen:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
windows system32 config system

This on a new P4 2.0A with an motherboard with 512 MB DDR 2100 30GB Maxtor HD 7200 with an MSI GeForce 4 64MB MX420 VC

I swapped with another memory stick I know the HD works well and did a test again and came back in good order.

Thanks in advance

Best Answer: It sounds like your computer is freezing for some reason, but I'm not sure why. I initially thought it was because the files may have moved, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I would suggest restarting the computer (maybe the program that you need is no longer working – check your task manager by pressing ctrl-alt-del). If a restart doesn't work, you might try majorgeeks.com – it's a computer support forum I've used in the past. They're very knowledgeable and will find the error signature, etc. useful. I hope they're able to help.

Good luck.

Re:Settings are at 7-3-3. Could it be a bad motherboard? Tried a different video card without error messages.

Re:Yes, I've seen both these errors on XP, and just recently. They occured on my system while I was seeing how far I could overclock. Since you say you are not overclocking I suggest you check your memory settings. They are probably too aggressive for the memory you were trying to use. For example, try 6-3-3 instead of 5-2-2.

EDIT: Also, sometimes moving memory to a different slot can fix this problem.

Re:Has anyone seen this error before?

Re:Is there any tech support in the tech support forum :)

Re:Nope all normal settings.
