Heatsinks which use a 80mm fan? [fan adapter] [80mm fan]
Q: And where can I buy? This fan adapter thing is just not working. I seem some heatsinks (Taisol?) Remember came with 80mm fans as standard. I think this is the way I want to go.
Re:Yeah, it's $65 + shipping, I think! I'm not that rich!
Re:The heatsink your thinking of is the swiftech 460(not sure the model number) IT is expensive as hell and if you can get one "lol" then all the power to you.
Re:Okay, well…
I bought a fan adapter from w9design and I was not impressed. I told him I was going to be using it with a PAL6035, but when it arrived, the screws I'd ordered with it didn't fit so I had to use some of the screws I had and some it came with by hand. The holes were too small so it took a while to widen up the screw holes.
After attaching it, it did not line up well with the heatsink or the attached fan. And the whole thing whines louder than my old 60mm setup! I'm still trying to figure that one out… (Fan doesn't whine off of adapter. Fan on adapter whines… hmm.) All the problems probably stem from it being untested with my HS, but still… And now I can't overclock with the adapter on. It's probably related to not enough airflow, which could be improved by not having any gaps.
I'm thinking at this point of ditching my PAL6035 and picking up a Taisol CGK and picking up one of these (http://gizzo.8m.com/cgk/cgk.html) things. Since they're made specifically for Taisols, I'm feeling quite confident. They also look very impressive. I found the thread about them after I posted.
Re:guy, details, man – DETAILS! Why isn't it working out? Temps going up, or what?
Referring to guy, there are some sites showing how to reverse the clip on the FOP series to hold an 80mm. Sorry, I don't have a link, but it's out there.
