home network problem, please help [cable modem service] [xp desktop]

Q: Ok, Im trying to network four computers (two XP desktops, a 98SE desktop, laptop and a W2K) through a D-Link router, from Comcast. I have three of the four months working fine, now I try another add.

I was setup file sharing between all of them, but I can not with an external web access via the new . I know Im missing something obvious, but I can not find out. The other three are still working fine.

Ive added new desktop MAC address of the router configuration, and I add the IP address for the new desktop, ZoneAlarm on each of the other computers (and vice versa). I like the new desktop directly to the cable modem, the net connection is fine.

Any suggestions?

Best Answer: Have you checked the Firewalls on all the computers?

If they are OK then I guess it's the wireless security on the router.

Turn the wireless security off (temporarily) and see if it now all works.
If it works then you need to sort out the wireless security, get the WPA Keys right.

If it still doesn't work then you need to check the wireless on the desktops.

Re:hmmm….ok, I reset the cable modem and the router, and then when I restarted the xp comp it worked fine:)
go figure
thanks for trying to help!

Re:Whats your IP ?(xp comp)

Re:nope. I can only ping the other comps on the network, nothing external. "could not find host…"

Re:Can you ping google.com from the XP comp.

Re:sorry, hit enter too soon the first time:)
