As stated above a switch does not contain a DHCP server. If you plugged your cable/dsl modem and computer into the switch your computer was receiving an IP from your ISP.

Re:you need to check the MFG web site, find a guide that tells you default IP and username/password. Reset the router, set your IP static in the same range (same Subnet mask, one number off in last octet should do it) and then connect to it via http.
