Re:Well, I've tried it after I had read Workin's reply. And it worked. After moving the *.pst file from it's original place, and starting up Outlook, I could point it to a shared folder on the other pc.
Thanks! Now I really know it works!

Baloney! It will look on a mapped network drive. I have set it up this way many, many times.
Of course if you want 2 computers to be able to access the data at the same time, you need Exchange Server, as stated before.

Re:Yes I've tried it too. It doesn't work on a network. Outlook will only look for its .pst files on local drives.
The way the files and rules are setup, it is obvious that Microsoft is being careful about not allowing these kind of things with Outlook ensuring their revenues for Exchange Server I suppose.

Re:<< AFAIK Outlook uses a *.pst file to store mail, calendars and adressbooks.
You could try the following:
PC 1 is your main pc. This is the pc that is used normally to use Outlook. Try to move the *.pst file to a different, shared folder. (By first copying it to that folder, then deleting the file in the old folder. When you start Outlook it will probably tell you, it cannot find the *.pst file. Then point it to the new place.)
PC 2 is your 'client' pc. Install Outlook on this pc and delete the original *.pst file. Start Outlook again and this too will ask you to point out where the *.pst file is. Point it to the shared folder on PC1.
However , be aware, that I have never tried this myself. I'm just wondering if this idea of mine could work. And I'm not sure that you can use the single *.pst file at the same time through both pc's. >>
I have done exactly as described many times. This will work however only one PC can use the *.pst file at any given time, so Outlook can run on only one PC at a time.

Re:There isn't really a good way to do this without Exchange Server. If all you want to share is mail, on the computer you use more, tell it to leave a copy of mail on the server. Then when you go to the second computer you will get a copy of it there also.

Re:you'd need to set up somehting like MS Exchange to do this and keep your inbox on the server of the network.
you caould also map the drives from each PC to the other and share the inbox across the lan, but you'll have to be sure to logoff the original session of Outlook before you could log onto the next one…there would be read/write permission errors otherwise

Re:Yea hmm you need some way of telling outlook to get the email folder files, address book and that sort of thing from a certain folder so both computers get the file from the same place. You couldn't of course be using the same files from two computers at once though…

Re:I don't know exactly how to accomplish what you are looiking for but I do know of a way to sort of simulate it. One possible solution I think would be to install outlook on a main computer (probably which ever pc you spend the most time on) then if you need to use it on a different pc create a short cut through the network to the main pc, that should work.
If it by chance just opens up the version of outlook that is installed on that pc you might have to work it a little differently. What you can do is install a copy of Outlook on whatever comp you want to use and create an account with your address book etc.. then both on the main pc and whatever pc you want to use edit the account by going to TOOLS-> ACCOUNTS-> (pick the accounts)-> properties->advanced-> and at the bottom there should be a button that says leave a copy of my email on the server and that will allow you to check the same email from all of the computers on the network, or anywhere in the world for that matter. All you have to do is probably once a month (depending on how many emails you get) uncheck the server option download all the emails to a specific pc and delete them all to get them off of the server, then you can recheck the button.
man was that long… hope that helps
