How do I install the codecs in your computer at work (no admin rights to install the codec pack) [admin rights] [work computer]
Q: I want some compressed video files to watch, but I have no admin rights to install a Codec Pack. Can I just copy the codecs into the system folder rather than paste?

well, i am not seeking ways to bypass the securityYes you are. If you aren't an Admin, then you'll be trying to bypass NTFS security as soon as you attempt to molest the contents of the Windows directory, for starters. Something your computer can report to I.T., incidentally.
As a former sysadmin, I know I'd much rather be asked, instead of putting on my Fun Police? hat, removing your computer for re-imaging, and reporting you to HR. Keeping attack surface at a minimum includes keeping non-standard stuff off the computers, so whether you think it's a security threat or not, you just have to abide by that. I'm sure that's part of the reason employees aren't endowed with Admin privileges at your workplace.
You would do well to heed MechBgon's advice.
Ask your IT department before installing or configuring anything.

since I don't consider installing Codecs a crime nor a threat to security
You don't, but your sysadmins might. ![]()

I just looked a the thread above this one and saw an alternative solution.
Put VLC Portable (http://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/vlc_portable) on a usb drive and run it from there. I haven't found media VLC won't play and this seems to have all the codecs.
Maybe still ask the IT dudes if running it from there is okay. I can't imagine there would be a prob. Especially seeing as though it requires no work from them.
I do this all the time using my unpriviliged account at work. VLC portable is great!

Ask I.T. for help with that, so you don't get yourself in hot water at work. Also, asking how to bypass security on someone else's computer or network isn't something the AT mods smile upon. Vacationable offense, I believe.

if mod thinks this is an inappropiate subject matter to be discussed here, remove as desired.
