How do I second O.S. on the other partition? [maxtor drive] [windows 98 help]
Q: I had a bare 40 Gig Maxtor drive and I split into two equal partitions (C u0026 D). I loaded Win98SE, as requested Maxtor floppy and everything went fine. Now, I have 2000 Pro on the D drive to win, but I do not know how. I tried to boot from CD in 2000, but just want to overwrite or clean install of Windows 98. Help.
Re:No problem, after the first go it's easy! My first attempt resulted in C:\(Win98), E:\(General) & F:\(Win2k)…which was odd.

Re:Worked like a charm Corm. Thanks.
Re:Thanks, I'll try that.
Re:Install Win98 onto C as normal. Once this is done, reboot and ensure you have first boot device as CD ROM setup in your bios and the w2k cd in the drive. Then press any key when prompted to do so to boot from the W2k install disk, in this setup you will be able to choose D and win2k's boot manager should setup the following:
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
Microsoft Windows
The 2nd will be for 98.
Also, for future ref did you know that most apps that are 98/2k okay, you can install them onto a third partition and even though you have to install them in both 98 and 2k you install to the same place and it saves you a bit of space!

Re:that odd, cause it let me specify where to install to
Re:When I did that it didn't give the option over which drive partition to install in/over. It just wants to install over c drive. Sorry if I'm missing something simple here but I've never done this (extended partitions)before.
Re:while running win98 put the win2k cd into your cdrom. now do a clean install of win2k onto your drive d partition
the win2k cd should auto run and let you upgrade but you want to do a clean install not the upgrade
