Re:I got it working. Thanks guys.

Re:Buffalo Routers as is and Linksys WRT54G with 3rd party firmware are also capable of reserving IP for specific computers within the DHCP (Aka Static DHCP).

Let say that your DHCP range is 100-110, you can assign within this range an IP that would by reserved to a computer/s of your choice by their MAC number.

This is very helpful for Laptop and other computer since it allows their TCP/IP properties to stay on Obtain Auto, yet they would be always assigned with the same IP.

Re:what you refer too is called a static IP. it should be in your WAN section of your settings. (YMMV). i would go with what guy said. using an ip address out of the DHCP range will solve any future problem with ip conflict.

Re:You could also use an IP that is within your DHCP scope range too, just be sure to use an IP at the top end of the range where it's not likely to get issued out to a machine anyway; as long as it never gets issued, you needn't worry about an IP conflict. Note, that this isn't really recommended – both of guy's suggestions would be preferable.

Re:I think you mean "without turning of DHCP". Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol.

Your may have the ability to reserve an IP for a specific MAC address. Use that feature if you want to leave your computer's network adapter set to 'obtain address automatically', but you want to have the same IP each time.
This method is handy for laptops.
If you plan on setting a specific IP address, simply use an address that is out of the scope of the DHCP server.
In your , there is a setting for DHCP, and also the pool of addresses it will give out. Typcially, it starts at .100 and goes up.
This means that all the adresses below .99 except for .1 are available to you for static IPs.
