How do I win all my ram 1998 use before it uses the hard drive? [win 98] [hard drive]
Q: I have 384 MB of RAM. I know there is a way to get a line of code to make sure all win98 applications of the ram before storing them on disk suff. My system used to focus on that way but it was so long ago that I did not know how. I reinstalled win 98 and want to set up the same way. Anyone know of a description of this site or the line of code and where is goes. Thank you.

Re:A freeware/shareware program (it's free, if you can't pay, with no restrictions) is Cacheman 5. It does all this, and optimize your cache to the way you need it with a few wizards. Run it, configure, save, and reboot. Before you know it, everything will be running great.
(Make sure you disable it from starting up with Windows.)

Re:put this into your sytem.ini under
[386Enh]
ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1
What this does is force all your ram to be used before the pagefile, All win 98,98se and ME can use it, Its a must for those with a good amount of ram, Suggested 256 or more but it can still help those with 128.
The "1" means ON where the "0" means OFF

Re:By the way, what is the difference between:
conservative swapfile usage=0
conservative swapfile usage=1
someone else suggested the latter with it equal to 1.

Re:Make a swap file equal in min and max settings, 384 would be fine. In system ini. under 386 enh add the line: conservative swapfile usage=0
