How fast is your Windows Vista boot? [norton internet security] [norton internet security 2007]

admin / June 10th, 2010/ Posted in Operating Systems / No Comments »

Q: Mine takes 40-45 seconds from when the Windows logo first appears. (First bar) to a fully functional desktop with no HD activity.

I only be counted from that point, because other systems will vary depending on the motherboard.

This is the fastest startup time Ive ever had (95, 98, MI, . XP.)

The only startup programs I have are:

2007
Windows Defender
Logitech Setpoint.

All services enabled.

How about you!

You actually do cold shutdowns? I rarely ever shutdown, it's always standby/hybrid sleep for me so it usually doesn't take more than about 5 seconds to "start up" :D

Same here hibernate is the way to save power and get going fast… about 10 seconds from the button press to fully functional desktop.

And if I am working on something I just leave it open and it right where I left off.

Re:Comparing boot times is like comparing apples to oranges. There are just too many variations in hardware and software for there to be any reasonable standard.

I remember one person bragging in a kidding way about the boot time of his Timex Sinclair was almost zero seconds. He could not really do anything productive with that computer, but his boot time was sure good!

Re:is norton slowing you down?

Re:OP change this to how long does it take as opposed to how fast ;)

Re:That's slow… my XP box takes about 20.

Re:Wow, 45s does seem pretty long, my copy of Vista RC2 in VMWare only takes ~45s to get to the login screen and then another ~20s for all the I/O to stop after logging in.

Re:Vista Ult. 64

25 seconds from the time I hit the power button to the time I see the login screen. 15-20 seconds from the time I login to idle desktop.

Powers off in about 5 seconds…

Re:45 seconds? Holy crap .. my XP Pro takes about 18-20 .. and it's slower than my old 98se P4 box. bleh.
