thx i figured it out you guys are awesome.

i can be pretty retarded sometimes…

windows XP can make a person retarded, they try and make everything simple, and it can't always be that way :)

Unless a person's old school I wouldn't expect them to know what formating/partitioning is. M$ has dumbed down the PC in order to make it uder friendly for everyone

Re:Under win2k/xp go to start, settings, control panel, administrative tools, computer management, and under that tab select disk management under storage. You should see your new HD there. Mount it and then format it and you will be set to go.

Do you have prior Maxtor hard drives or other CD rom from other retail hard drives? You can use that to install it from Windows or ask someone you know if you can borrow one.

Re:For the love of god, you didn't even partition/format it?

Re:Here is what you do.

Use the CD rom that came with the hard drive. It guides you to help install/format it and it shows up under "My Computer".

This is from my experience with Maxtor hard drives. The Maxtor CD is awesome.

I also used it for Seagate/Western Digital installation.

Re:ive never had to… ok i see whats goin on usually they are already formatted when i use this is the first new HD ive installed… ahh hHAHA ok sorry newb question… big time :(

Re:Formatting? How about plain old partitioning!
