How to connect your two computers over the Internet? [remote desktop] [amp]

Q: Me u0026 a friend trying to get our computers hooked up so we can get files from each other as opposed to directly send them to each other. What is the easiest way to do this? Both with XP Pro. ? FTP? I tried to DropChute Lite that sounds perfect in descrguytion download.com but it does not seem like the program is still available.

Please let me know how to go about doing it. As FTP, how can I set up a server?

Thanks much. :)

Re:Awesome, people. This has worked perfectly.

You rool! ;)

Re:your guy address. or better yet, you can use a program such as dns2go to create a permanent ftp address that will link to your guy address (unless you have static guy).

Re:<< GuildFTPd Server. (http://www.nitrolic.com/download.htm) >>

Ok, got it installed. Now how do I get it so that I can connect with someone else? Don't I need an FTP address? Sorry for the newbie question, but I'm not all that familiar with FTP.

Thanks.

Re:Thanks, sounds easy enough. Now, I know that I'm likely asking for too much here but is there a freeware version of this type of software?

Feel free to blast me if you must. :D

Re:Use FTP. Easy to set up.

Get Bulletproof FTP Server from http://www.bpftpserver.com
Install it.
Goto Setup, User Accounts.
Right click in the right hand box. Fill in the boxes.
Right click in the middle box, add, choose the directory and set permissions.
Press ok.
Goto Main, General Options.
Set a ftp server name and port number.
Then just click the lightning bolt under the server menu.
All done.
