Q: In and ME I used to run the command winipcfg to release and renew the , how do I do that in Windows XP because this command is not available in Win XP?

Re:I got tired of typing it on my NT/2K machines and made myself a batchfile a few years back.
start>run>iprenew.bat
:D

Works like a charm… Even my technology inclined girlfriend had no problem using it.

Re:If you put the wntipcfg.exe file in the winnt\system32 directory you will be able to start it from a command prompt no matter what direcotory you are in by typing wntipcfg

Re:Thanks, guy. I downloaded the file Wntipcfg.exe and installed it in my computer. I like it because works just like Win98. The only problem is that I can not type in the command line just wntipcfg, don't work. I have to type the complete path and the file extension for it to work. I typed in the command line "C:\Program Files\Resource Kit\wntipcfg.exe" and it worked fine.

Re:I think the quickest way to release and renew in XP would be to right-click on the network icon in the system tray and hit "repair". Repair renews the IP adress, flush ARP & DNS and reregisters with WINS and DNS.

Re:another gui tool…bah

Re:Excellent guy that is much easier to use

Re:As an alternative, Microsoft ported winipcfg to 2K/XP. It is called wntipcfg (http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/tools/existing/wntipcfg-o.asp) and functions exactly like winipcfg.

Re:Thanks a lot, guy. This is great, I am back in business.

Re:open up the command line dialogue and type this "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew" without the quotes.
to get all the other info that winipcfg gives you at the command line type "ipconfig /all"
