IE windows close on their own random [open ie] [several times]
Q: I can not figure out what happens with this machine. Ive run adaware, spybot, antivirus, looked through all the reports generated. The only thing I found was popcaploader that I removed from the system yesterday and it still does. Every so often, usually several times an hour, one, several or all open windows to close on their own. Just disappear. No other windows, only IE.
Any ideas? This is damn annoying. : |

Re:I use IE 6 and Netscape 7.2! I won't try the new stuff till all their quirks have been addressed.
No problems there.
I also swapped out my RAM and that solved my problem of Windows shutting down and reopening again and again.
In the past, I had problems with cheap PSUs until I finally wised up. Use only Fortron, Enermax or Seasonic is my foundation now.
There is usually an answer to fix a particular problem, but a diagnosis online is hit or miss. Good luck though.

Re:The half-hour that I was online yesterday before upgrading to IE 7, I had no problems with windows closing. Today, with IE 7, every time I use the feature "open in new tab", it closes all IE windows, but with "open in new window" I haven't had any close yet.

Run those spyware scans in safe mode (make sure they are updated). Also, try doing a virus scan in safe mode with updated definitions.
Did that when I got home this afternoon and spybot found something in the registry:

or something like that (wrote it down on paper.)

What version of IE are you using? 6? 7?
6. Spouse is bringing home 7 on his laptop from work (no broadband at home.) He's thinking IE has been 'hijacked', from what he's managed to find out online. We'll be installing a new firewall after the upgrade.
