IE6 Sp1 fragged Email, W2K experts call for help [fragged] [cumulative patch]
Q: After the problem after installing IE6 SP1 cumulative patch Q324929 on my Win2K system, my email program (Eudora,) will no longer send email (although it receives is fine) 0.
Is there any way to patch removal ? When I try to “fix” the message is not repairable and must be re-installed!
Any ideas? Completely uninstall IE6?
Update: Its not just Eudora, but OE .

Re:thanks guy for the constructive suggestions – I will try that later and report back. I do have Outlook functioning so that takes some pressure off in terms of actually getting work done. I looked into some other stuff including running SFC. I get an error message trying to repair IE6 [IE6 cannot be repaired; error calling DllRegisterServer WINNT\system32\dxtrans.dll]
Do I need to reinstall W2K updates (sp3) after running sfc?
Re:You could uninstall SP1 in add/remove programs.
Did you have SP1 archive before installing?
If you don't have an option to uninstall SP1.. then try this.
Uninstall Zone Alarm. Restart.
Make sure you don't have IIS installed on Win2k.. check add/remove programs, windows components.
Go into start, run, msconfig, services and make sure all are enabled & started for the time being. Also go to startup tab and disable all startups.
Uninstall Eudora.
Search registry and delete all references to Eudora. Restart.
Now before reinstalling Eudora.. create another user on you computer with same rights.
Log into that user and reinstall Eudora over same location as you originally had it installed.
Then try it out and see if it works under that user. If it does work or doesn't let us know.
However if after all the changes you have done its screwed up Outlook Express then you may not be able to get any email client to work.
In this case I would run repair from Win2K cd if you didn't keep an ERD disk up to date.
Re:I have been using IE6 and Eudora 4.3x for several months with no problems; and yes, that is after IE6 SP1. My advice would be to reinstall Eudora over the current copy after I backed up all my message files and folders. If you use USENET, there is a very active Eudora group under comp.*
Re:well thanks for your reply. I do a lot of email – juggling several accounts, a couple of businesses and several websites. Consequently when I can't send mail its a big deal (for me). When I click 'send' I get a long pause and a timeout error message 10053. I can find no reference to this error on the Eudora website, though multiple referances to it elsewhere – all describing a common error in setup that I do not have.
One other anomaly I did discover is that I get a blank page when accessing the Eudora website – very odd, but no such problem on a second computer on the same network, sharing the same cable connection (and using Eudora without problem). That computer runs IE5.0 this one IE6 and the only thing that changed is I installed SP1 for the browser. Presumably there are some other websites I can't access either. I have checked security and browser settings etc etc, to no avail, and found a couple of other people with the same problem (but no solution).
I don't know enough geek to know how W2K interacts with the SMTP server to troubleshoot the steps and find out where the blockage is.
Re:Oh my god fella. This is an email program you're talking about…
Open email program, check mail, write message, click send, close program.
Why does it have to be such a religious experience? Keep on using OE for 30 days – people are resilliant – you'll adjust – OR – as some sort of constructive advice, I quickly browsed the www.eudora.com (http://www.eudora.com) supprt website and found a few articles that deal with resetting some files that Eudora uses. Check out they're FAQs and if nothing turns up gold, send em an email with OE…;)
Re:ooooooooooohhh the pain of it all! Being forced to use Outlook is sheer torture. It is a complete mystery to me how anyone can be productive with this giant piece of flatulent crapeau!
Can no-one help me back to sanity?
Re:I have uninstalled, IE6 and gone back to IE5 (ugh), installed OE (ugh) and double checked all connections and acount setups – I cannot send out any mail at all through OE, and sometimes can send a two line text message from Eudora.
I have searched the MSKB, the usegroups etc without solution. The OE error is (unfortunately) one of the commonest in cyberspace
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0×800CCC0D
usually relating to incorrect account settings, but I have verified my account settings are correct. All I can think of is that somehow port permissions have been changed? And apparently not in IE but in W2K (which is why uninstalling IE6 didn't help).
Reinstalling Windows is not something I would look forward to…there has to be a smarter way.

AZ,
>I used both Eudora Lite and Pro versions for years because I got the Lite version free from my old ISP. Eudora is an excellent e-mail program but it is left behind by Outlook Express. I also got Netscape free from an old ISP and used the paid for versions for years. It was an OK browser mainly because it had no competition. When IE 4 was released Netscape started losing its major market share where today NS only has about 4% market share. The people have spoken.
Thanks for the diatribe on your opinions of web browsers and emailers – all of which have absolutley no bearing whatsoever on my problem. I'm thrilled OE works for you, it doesn't work for me. It has a crappy interface, clumsy spell checker and circuitous methodology in general compared to Eudora 4.3 Pro.
Since installing IE6 sp1 Eduora doesn't send mail any more. It recieves just fine however, leaving me to beleive that the Cumulative Security Patch blocked some out going port or placed some other restriction on outgoing data. I reinstalled Eudroa in a different directory and found it would send a message up to a few lines long in plain text. I've found a few similar posts on a couple of newsgroups but no solutions (also after installing the M$ patch).
To reiterate; I'm looking for any clues into how the patch alters the registry, or any way to reverse this disaster so that my existing mailer might work again.
Edit: OK I take some back – OE does work; I hadn't given it premission through ZoneAlarm
. I still want Eudora to work though ![]()

I have been using OE since version 4. Have not gotten a single virus with any e-mail. Rumor mongers are what they make themselves out to be.
I do e-mail almost every day.

Re:Nobody knows?
Am I the only one using IE6 and Eudora?

I find it ironic that someone says to uninstall one program cause it's buggy, then suggests replacing that program with OE.
Indeed……. the irony ![]()

Get rid of buggy Eudora and that should solve all your problems. .
Well I happen to like Eudora – I have about 4 thousand peices of email on it, it has co-existed peacefully with 98SE for years and now W2K for years and as a bonus it is not designed to intercept and pass on every virus ever written. I would be keeping the bug and throwing out the apple.
Anyone have any real ideas?
Re:Use OE6 instead for e-mail.
Ever since I installed IE6 sp1 I no longer have the abilty to start OE6 from the browser.
It's no longer an option under Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs.
Re:>Any ideas? Uninstall IE6 completely? <<<
Basically do not uninstall IE6 that could mess up your system. Get rid of buggy Eudora and that should solve all your problems. Use OE6 instead for e-mail.
