Internet takes a long time to work. [virus program] [anti virus]
Q: When starting the Internet takes a while to work. (Approximately 20-30 seconds) Im thinking it may be because my anti-virus program?
Any thoughts?
Best Answer: Could be the modem or it could be the setup in your computer.
You could try setting up the computer again if you have the instructions on how to do it. You also need to know your login name and your password. Just go to Network Connections, delete your connection then go through the Create a New connection wizard.
Re:on my XP box, the network comes up, but for some reason it takes a few more seconds to browse. Other network programs work right away. I have zone alarm and thats probably slowing down things a bit. hardware is on quick, but software takes a second

I don't know how much you have going on with your PC — and from your sig, you have a nice PC, or what operating system you are running. Let's assume its XP Pro. I'm inclined to agree with guy above. When you start your PC, and you get the prompt to login, notice that your HD light is still flashing. There is still stuff going on. I worked for a company that had problems when people would login immediately when getting the prompt. If the user waited another 15 seconds after getting the prompt, they had no problem — but again, they were running equipment half as good as what you've got.
Also, what type of internet connection do you have? If you have a PPPoE connection, I have seen issues where this happens initially — as the connection has to be 'logged into", so you're waiting for that.

For example, AIM is supposed to load up automatically and sign on automatically. But since it takes the length mentioned above for the network to kick in, I end up having to have to log on manually.

1 – Are you not able to open your browser at all for a while after loading Windows?
2 – Does the browser load but no pages load at first? Or do pages look like they are trying to load (activity indicator is moving) but nothing happens for a while after you click the links?

If 2, it is likely either that your network adapter is one of the last things that Windows is initializing, so you don't have network connectivity (i.e. web pages) until the card is fully initialized by Windows. Your browser might make it look like it is trying to load the web pages, but the browser is really just waiting for a response from a valid network connection so that it can retrieve the web pages from the server.
If it's something else entirely (like an error message) what is the error message? And what specifically makes you think it might be related to your anti-virus program?
