Is it possible to format a Lexar JumpDrive from Command Prompt? [lexar jumpdrive] [usb slot]

admin / April 25th, 2011/ Posted in Computer Help / No Comments »

Q: I accidentally deleted from my JumpDrive without using the “Safely Remove Hardware” process.

When I did this, one way or another dozen folders named something like “000″ . were added to the JumpDrive.

I since moved from the non-”000″ files to another location for the “safekeeping” until it starts I get my work again.

I formatted my JumpDrive JumpDrive by right clicking the drive In Windows Explorer and choose Format. But now when I plug in the JumpDrive the blocking Windows Explorer and the JumpDrive no autorun anymore.

Is there a way to re JunpDrive via the Command Prompt?

Re:Given the ridiculously low cost of these now with much larger capacities than your old Jumpdrive, I think you're wise in giving up the troubleshooting process. Good luck.

Re:The JumpDrive locks up "My Computer" on the other PC too.

Oh well. At least I was able to get my data off this JumpDrive.

thanks for the help everyone.

Re:Can you try doing this (formatting) in another pc? Your settings might be hosed for this drive on this pc, causing the problems you're experiencing. It's worth a test to rule out operating system issues on your current pc before spending tons of time on it. Try the drive on another computer, and reformat it there.

Re:I just tried it after reading your suggestion.

The second program opened after unzipping it but it couldn't find the USB JumpDrive.

Re:There is another program listed in that post, did you try to use that as well?

Re:I tried to install it but I kept getting this message, "An error occurred when trying to run file Version.exe"

I downloaded the install file from both the original and alternate locations listed on http://www.compuapps.com/download/Swissknife/swissknife.htm

Re:You might try formatting it using Swissknife. The link is in this post.

Re:It didn't show up on Generic Volumes.

I wonder if the problem occurred when I formatted it FAT32 instead of FAT.

Re:One thing I noticed from Lexar instructions is that when formatting, you should UNCHECK the "Quick Format" option and let it do a full format. Keep that in mind.

What I would try is booting up with the Lexar drive already in the USB port. If it boots up, go into Device Manager and see if there's a listing for "Storage Volumes". If so, that's probably where your JumpDrive's settings are.

When I plug my Flash Drive in, Device Manager shows the heading "Storage Volumes" and double clicking on that opens it up to "Generic volume". See if you have that, and see if there's a RED X on top of the icon for Generic volume. If there is, RIGHT-CLICK on it, and choose "Enable". The drive should work again.

Re:Here's what is printed on the JumpDrive case:

128MB
PD128-04-500 Rev H

I DO NOT believe it is the safe/secure model. It is at least 2 years old.

Thanks.

Re:Exactly what size and model JumpDrive is this? e.g. is it the "Safe" or "Secure", etc.? Please be specific, and the capacity, as well.
