Is it possible to send messges through a network work? [work network] [work thanks]
Q: Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if it was possible to send messages through my network at work. We are running a Windows 2000 professional network. I do not think there is no special software installed, such as MSN Messenger or something similar. I just remembered back in high school, in class you could “sticky notes” to send to other computers. I was wondering if there is one feature that is available to my network at work.
Thanks for the help.
Re:It should look like: NET SEND Computer_Name Message
computer_name is the computers name/IP address you want to send to.

Re:hey spidy
well i tried the net send thing again and got it going somewhat. When i type net send it says something like syntax, and then gives me a line of text with domain, user, name etc… i'm not too sure about this part. Do i basically fill in the blanks and put my domain and the user i want to send it to? How do i know what my domain name is and what the user names are?
Thanks again for all of the help.

open command prompt..
net send /?
tells you all you need to know.
I remember one guy in our company use the net send command and forgot to put the destination host address and it send the message across the whole domain.
BE VERY CAREFUL
Re:To use the netsend command first open a Command console by typing CMD in the run field (command if a win98/95 machine) this will bring up the window for you to enter text in a DOS prompt environment. Then type the netsend /? command.
Re:I see. well i was hoping there would be some method that i could use already in place on the network. It is not my network and i really don't have much experience with them so i don't want to be installing any shareware programs.
Re:If you search (shareware sites for the term Netsend) you would find a lot of free Utils that provide easy GUI interface to the method mentioned by Spidey.
Re:There are a couple of things you can use. If you just want to send annoying pop-ups, then you can use NetHail (http://www.nethail.com/NT_Hail.html) ( *ASS*uming you have an ALL WinNT/Win2K/XP Network ) If you want something more like MS Messenger or AOL AIM, but *WITHOUT* the need for an IM Server, then you could use Microsoft Portrait (http://research.microsoft.com/~jiangli/portrait/)
Re:you mean type that into "run" under the start menu? I tried that and nothing happens.. a black windo comes up very quicklly and goes away (looks like a DOS window).
