Is there a way to change the Windows XP CD-Key? [windows cd key] [windows xp cd]

Q: I have a and brother used my CD key at the moment. Now I have my own license. Is there a way to get the CD key to mine without reinstalling change? Thanks!

Best Answer: If your friend used his computer before he gave you his restore CDs most likely the software was activated. The point is moot, however, because if this is HP software then this is a OEM copy of the Microsoft operating system. Microsoft does not allow OEM software to be transfered from one computer to another. During activation, Microsoft records the Globally Unique ID from your motherboard and attaches that with the Windows Product ID. Upon a second activation, if the two numbers do not match the previous activation, the activation may fail. Even if the activation does not fail, your computer will be illegally licensed.
