Is there a way to FTP with D-Link router? [configured] [router]
Q: Cannot really figure out how to set up an FTP with my router. I configured as a DMZ host and everything. I have a step by step through this one, if anyone knows how to create and FTP server with this router Please help me out, Im fresh out of ideas here: o.

I did, the problem was mostly in my FTP software, I got serv-u and it seems to be working! Thanks for the help.

you go to the forwarding tab…and let say your forward port 21 (FTP) to 192.168.1.10…then when your buddies hit your WAN IP…the router says …"Hey…this is FTP info…which should be sent through port 21"…then it looks through the port forwading section and then says to itself…"Hey, computer with the LAN IP of 192.168.1.10 is requesting this information to be sent to it…"….then Voila….your buddies get through….

Re:People connecting from the outside (the Internet) would have to connect using your ISP assigned address, NOT your local address. If YOU (on the local side of your router) cant connect using the LOCAL address, then their is something wrong with your ftp configuration.

Re:Use whatever IP that is on the server you want to run the FTP server on. This is NOT your cable assigned address. Just run ipconfig on the FTP server….thats the one you use.

Great, thanks for your help guy. I use DMZ for file transfer through MSN and AOL.

Re:Since you werent too specific, I'll tell you how I did it. I have a d-link 704 router. I went into the advanced settings and mapped port 21 to the local ip (192.x.x.x) of the ftp server. Then on my server (Serv-U) I set the ip address as the local ip of the machine (same as the port mapped in the router).
And there you go…
