Is this slow for a LAN connection on my home network? [netgear wireless] [network utilization]

Q: Hi guys, Im transferring a DVD backup from one computer to another computer on my network at home and it seems painfully slow.

The file size is about 8 GB, and it is expected to be around ~ take 200 min. According to the Task Manager, using the net is always between 2-9% or so on both systems, and CPU usage is never above 10% on both system.

Shouldn it any faster? The two computers are connected by a Router (although they are both wired in it), model WGT624. Is there anything, anything at all that I can do to speed this up? It just seems like it should first be faster.

Thanks boys
Jeff

Best Answer: Open up your ares program and look in control panel, then click on the transfer tab,to the right you will see bandwidth. In that box you can set how much of your bandwidth is used for uploads and downloads. If it is set at zero it will use unlimited bandwidth and that will definitely slow you down on your network cause all computers on your network are sharing the same connection. You will have to experiment with the up and download settings to see what works best for your connection.Hope this helps solve your problem.

Re:Yes that is VEry bad, i say you should see about 70-90% there for avg

if u have any software firewalls disable them..

Re:Well, it resolved…a plug in I had installed for MCE 2005 (My Movies) was evidently causing my system to generally freeze up after awhile. Not sure why…but uninstalling it has caused everything to go back to normal.

Re:No, I don't have wireless cards on either of them, they're both hooked up by ethernet cables. I've also deactivated the wireless activity of the router because I'm not using any wireless functions yet.

Re:do you have wireless card installed and configured on each computer?
If so , it may go wireless card first…..
