Re:I would try that but my company employees 8,000 people. Im sure our IT has better

Re:Yup, major nerve with us admins (it is also against the forum rules btw). Why not ask your admin if it's cool?
When my guys ask me for stuf like that, if it is a game or some other software they need that isnt part of our everyday stuff, I am cool with it as long as I install it and set it up!

Re:well…looks like I struck a nerve or something….:D
Its not that big deal so calm down…
1. It would just be nice to be able to load a game and/or codec so I could play Divx movies on it. (kill time during travel)
2. I have my own laptop but I dont really want to pack 2 laptops on trips.
(Just take your own laptop you might say, I cant because I dont have AutoCad and Office to put on it like
the one work provides, and of course they only have enough licenses for their PC's)
Just wanted to know if there was a quicky way around it, if not I guess I have to live with it…

Sounds like it.
You wouldnt get away with that sort of thing on a properly locked down 2k/XP box.
Yeah, that won't worjk in 2000/xp. U still have to logon to the laptop and even in safe mode, it would still have your GPO settings or at the very least your user rights.

Re:whats even funnier is that in safe mode we had access to the uninstall file for the program that was setting all the limits…we ran the exe and it was able to load the thing…of course we didnt run it completely, we just ran it to see if it could be run. If we uninstalled it they would have known something was up…

jeez i wish i could remember the damn name of the software they were using…

back in HS they would run software that was to prevent alomst anything on that computer. "My computer" was off limits, viewing the c drive was too…ya know stuff like that.
We were able to work around it though. A little help from safe mode did the trick…
we even got Zone Alarm installed thru safe mode…it wasnt set up properly, so when we booted to regular windows figuring we would set it up, it crashed the computer as the computer required NetBIOS access, which ZA was blocking…funny times. Had to uninstall it…
see if booting into safe mode does you anything…
that's funny!

Re:As saltin said they probably want it that way. Its a nice way to keep the users from breaking the machines by putting crap on there, getting trojans without knowing, etc.
Re:They probably locked it down on you thinking you were going to try and do something silly with it………like installing a game.
Buy your own laptop. That's a good solution.
