Linksys Router cannot handle the speed [linksys befsr41] [frimware]

Q: I have FIOS isntalled in my house and my v2 router cannot handle the speed! Running a speed test Im uploading 2 Mb, 2.5 Mb download. WhenI use the D-Link router they supplied me I see the 15 MB download speed it should be. What gives?

I tried upgrading the router, but that did not . If I have a Linksys router to buy better, what would I do?

Best Answer: Theoretically, you should be able to communicate using the switch. However, the way your connection to the modem is configured may hinder this.

Ideally, you want a router, if you don't want wireless then a decent 100Mbit router is very cheap these days. just be careful as to whether you need an ADSL of cable router.

Re:So jealous. Want FIOS. I live in a city that they are expanding FIOS into, but they currently have no plans to make connections to apartment buildings.

Re:Holy crap! You lucky bugger! I can only see the day I get FIOS with a time-traveling scope. Heh, living in ND does have it's downfalls.

FIOS might bring forth a new breed of high-speed routers to the market. Do you think we'll ever catch up to Sweden and Korea with their 100Mbps lines? I wonder what routers they use.

Re:True the WRT54G is fast but it's 216Mhz! The BEFSR series is much slower (slow ARM I think?). I have used both and the WRT54G is much faster.

Re:Interesting stuff there guy, thanks for the info!

So there really is no wired router alternative for me in the LinkSys world unless I fork out big money for those small business routers?

Re:guy, almost no SOHO grade routers can do PPPoE at 15Mb/s. That's why Verizon gives you a free D-Link router with custom (performance optimized) firmware. That's also why Verizon will be moving away from PPPoE – getting rid of that extra processing overhead is the difference betwen being able to handle the performance or not. But until then, you should use the D-Link router they give you.

And even then, I'm pretty sure the BEFSR41 will never be able to handle the speed. Not much horsepower in there.

Re:The Linksys wrt54g can handle up to around 20mbit in the routing part. In either direction (WAN to LAN or LAN to WAN)
